About this Scholarship / Model

The Scholarship of Application (SoA) aligns with the ontological and sociological dimensions. However, sustainable communities (any/all types of communities) in the SoA depends on the continuous SoI process of: action, reflection, and dissemination with partners from all types of communities. UWC does not interpret the SoA as only engaging with geographical communities (citizens) through service learning, volunteering, and outreach, as described by Boyer.

UWC conceptualizes the SoA as engaged scholarship with all community types (student, scholarly (business/private and public sector and civil society). The SoA requires equitable, multi-dimensional and multi-level partnerships to bring about sustainable communities through the SoA - driven by ‘needs’ (transformation requirements) from each of the respective community types. This scholarship addresses the usefulness and applicability of knowledge in society that is SI.
